Hi Murray, Try to delete the .shotwell directory in your home folder as this should make it think that you've never used it before. If you haven't changed the default location of your library, all images should be in the Pictures directory in your home folder.
You may want to check the gconf key apps/shotwell/preferences/files/import_dir, on my install is says <no value>.
