.deb based systems have a search facility in aptitude which I find very
useful to work that sort of things out. I don't know if yum has similar
features but it may be good to check.

This should not happen unless your root user has an unusual umask
setting. You can check that by running the following in a command line:
sudo umask

0.10 was brought forward so a number of features like hierarchical tags
will go into 0.11 instead. The main new feature is saved searches.
