Are you importing the images direct from SD card?  I have an issue in
Ubuntu when reading from sd card that the card is sometimes unmounted
suddenly during the transfer so some of the images are not able to be
accessed.  Another symptom of this is that then you get the card is
remounted so the What Shall I Do With This File System popup appears
again.
