Hello, Just tried the latest and greatest version of Shotwell.
I'm eagerly getting ready to unleash it on my large photo collection, so I've been giving each new version a quick test. My comments for 0.11 are below. 1. Corruption of dates on import seems to be fixed. I had an issue previously when some dates got mixed up on the file system during import... problem is now gone. Yeh! 2. Boolean searches Love the enhancements there, and it just seems to work. All the most important ones are there. This could be expanded even further though... I can think of a few others that I would use if it was available - camera make / model / lens - shutter speed / iso / exposure / program (Auto/Aperture/Shutter/Man) / flash fired - file size Realise that you're trying to make this user friendly by limiting options, but there are lots of prosumer options that could be exposed here... namely all the exif info and all the file level info. I wonder if there is a compromise that can be achieved by exposing one item "exif field" in the drop down and having a legend of the field names to use via a linked help page. Each line would look like: "Exif Field" <field name> <contains/is> <value> Anyway.... just a thought. 3. Tags. Hierarchical tags work great. Apart from a few accessibility issues, they are very usable. I expected one feature when clicking on "Tags"... the top level tag, any photo with a any tag set would be shown. Possibility for a future version? 4. Files / Events I like that allowing a custom folder structure on import has been implemented, but in order to support my workflow as is, I would need to A) - import to my custom folder structure in shotwell - rename the folders by enriching with a comment (in nautilus) - rename the files with an external tool (phatch?) - restart shotwell to update index to point to new folders/file names. or B) - use something else for import to shotwell's library directory - start shotwell (with watch library) to update Ideally, I would like this to be done without leaving shotwell. This is probably the one main outstanding reason I'm not using shotwell exclusively. I'm waiting for any/all of these. - rename photo files themselves on import - add event names on import - move files when modifying dates / changing event names - either reflect event structure in file structure (and vice versa), or expose folder view - create events based on existing folder names (for existing library) 5. Scalability I now have 130GB collection of 50K+ photos and videos. Waiting for the "scale to 100K photos" feature as I think it may impact me. With every release, I'm left wanting for less and less. Thank you for a great job.
