After moving my .shotwell directory to try from a fresh start I was
getting an
"GLib-GIO-Message: Using the 'memory' GSettings backend. Your settings
will not be saved or shared with other applications."
error on natty. Looking at this bug:

I tried installing the dconf libraries which fixed everything. Maybe
these should be added as dependencies of shotwell?
sudo aptitude install dconf-tools libconf0 libdconf-dbus-1-0
