@OP: You can use any method you like for synchronising the pictures and .shotwell folders. You could simply copy them (which could take a long time) or I think you could use something like Dropbox with symlinks to the folders. rsync is just a very efficient way of doing it. Note that I believe that syncing .shotwell will only work if you have the same directory structure (to the pictures folder) on both machines. You also need the same (or close) versions of shotwell on the two machines.
