That said, I'm a bit confused as to what exactly you're trying to do. Exporting the photos is only necessary if you want to preserve edits made within Shotwell (red eye, enhance, etc.). Tags and titles can be preserved if you enable metadata writing in Shotwell -- these are written into the photo files themselves (for JPEGs, not RAW or video) which are then read back when you import the file.
