Vala 0.16 hasn't been released yet (http://live.gnome.org/Vala), so more
accurately you're running a daily build of Vala in the 0.16 development
series. We haven't tested building Shotwell with daily Vala builds. I
recommend that you install Vala 0.15.0 from the Vala PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~vala-team/+archive/ppa) and use it to build
Shotwell. Alternatively, you can build Vala 0.15.0 from source.
