Hi Dougie, I am not able to reproduce the exact issue you're experiencing on Ubuntu (Precise). However, I have noticed a possibly related issue with new folder creation. You can read more about that issue on Redmine:
http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/4723 We suspect this may be related to GTK 3. If you're running Wheezy, I believe you might be using GTK 3. I've included your findings as a comment on the issue since I suspect they may be related.
