Eric,
to build Shotwell from git master you'll first need to build and install
gexiv2 (http://redmine.yorba.org/projects/gexiv2/wiki) from git master.
This is due to recent changes we made for Vala 0.15.1.
Sorry you ran into this unexpectedly. We should update the Shotwell
build instructions to mention this soon.
