Metadata is not being written whatever I've tried.

My computer has seen lots of Shotwell installs ... standard repo,
ppa, now running trunk. Recently the default db and thumbnail
locations changed, maybe there's some kind of config file conflict.

What is the app which allows me to see and edit config values
outside of Shotwell? I forget.
