Hi Chris, Apologies for having a bit of a geek moment here, but I think this should be eminently possible with a little elbow grease and sincerely hope you succeed. Back during the 0.10 era, I managed to compile it on OpenPandora (after several days spent plumbing the murky depths of the Angstrom repositories).
I couldn't get a sensible cross-compilation environment, so I just compiled on the unit itself. Compilation took considerable time and patience and it didn't run too well with a lot of images in it (it's a first-gen model with 256MB RAM and I don't have swap enabled, so I saw the OOM killer quite a bit); there were some other user-experience problems as well (all the dialog boxes, for example, kind of 'expect' the target computer to have a display taller than 480 pixels). Still, though, it did run; on a Raspberry Pi, with the faster CPU and more memory, things should go a lot more smoothly. Please do let us know how things go; this would be pretty cool if it worked. (I used to work for a firm that, among other things, made children's game machines that ran embedded Linux under the hood, and somewhere along the way, I seem to have developed a bit of a soft spot in my heart for very small machines that can do very big things...)
