Maybe this should be listed somewhere in the installation instructions or wiki.
Before I installed gstreamer1-libav, upon starting shotwell I got a long
running "Updating Database" message. This happened every time I started and
nothing seemed to change.
After I installed gstreamer1-libav, my video thumbnails were recreated. After
I let that finish and restarted shotwell, shotwell is way more responsive at
startup.
btw, for Fedora 18, gstreamer1-libav is in the rpmfusion repo.
