I've a suggestion for the future.

Newer wpa_supplicant versions (0.7.*) will have a DBus API to configure them,
so i think it would be nice to use this in the future. Then we can avoid to
call binarys over the cli and make iliwi more flexible. And one can use
wpa_supplicant as what it is: a deamon.
Currently you are restarting wpa_supplicant for every reconnect it seems, and
that doesn't feel right ;)

So it would be nice if you keep this in mind and write you're wifi.vala in a
way one can easiely rewrite it to use dbus when version 0.7.* of
wpa_supplicant is in SHR.

But for now: great work :)

Regards
Thomas
