Here is the test I have done. - Put the phone screen up on a rigid surface, i.e a wooden desk - Use an other phone (I call it phone B) to call the FR - of course accept call on the FR - when you speak in phone be, you can here you own voice echoded - lift up the FR a few milimeters, the echo disapear. So it is a mechanical coupling through the FR case (or the PCB) We have discussed this point on opnmoko-fr. I dont remember if the phone is directly soldered on the PCB or through small wired (seems different between GTA1 and GTA2)
So, if the volume of the FR is set too hight, or the mic too sensitive, the echo Appears. I have also noticed a saturation phenomenon with SHR setting. I have tried a few month ago to look at the setting of the song in the FR, but was unable to find complete information.
