I presume "Call" in Messages should call the number from which the
selected SMS was sent? Useful indeed!
It'd be nice to have direct access to "SMS" in contacts, similiar
to how there is direct access to "call", i.e. not hidden under
"options". Some people use SMS much more than calls. (quicker, no need
for the other part to be available, and also cheaper).
So perhaps:
Contacts: New, Options, Call, SMS
If that is too much on one line, consider putting everything on
two lines like
New Call SMS
edit delete
Or if direct access to "delete" is too dangerous, consider hiding "new"
instead of "sms". The contact list is _used_ for call/sms more often
than you actually add to it. At least I build the contact list in
when the phone is new, and only occationally add more.
I.e.
Contacts: Options, Call, SMS
Contacts options: New, Edit, Delete
I would not want to hide "New" on the message screen though, because
"New" is one of the most used message actions. Yes, it is "inconsistent"
but usage of messages and contacts really is different. So they should
be optimized differently.
Another wishlist item:
Now that we can have more than a handful of messages, we really
need a way to mass-delete efficiently.
Options->"delete all" is good for big cleanups, but it'd be nice to have
a fine-grained way.
Repeating "select", "options", "delete" over and over is no good. That
is three clicks per message, and you have to wait for screen updating
too. Try this with 200 messages! It is not uncommon, and many other
phones do this badly. Here, the FR can be *better*.
The answer is multi-selection, so that one can use one click per message
to select a lot, and finally delete them all (or possibly reply to all)
I can think of two simple ways of achieving this:
1. Have a checkbox as the rightmost part of every message. The user can
check lots of messages by tapping the boxes - one click per message.
Finally, use "delete" or "answer" to deal with the lot.
To protect the user, consider changing the text "delete"
to "delete marked" when more than one message is selected.
2. If checkboxes are unwanted, have "Options->Multiselect". After using
that you have multi-select modus, where selecting a message won't
de-select the previously selected message. so you can mark all
messages you want. (Click a message again to unselect it.)
Finally, use delete/answer. This should also end multiselect mode.
One should also be able to get out of this mode if it
was activated by mistake, can be done by using Options->multiselect
again.
I like (1) best, as there will be fewer clicks and no newbie confusion
over modes.
