Yes it works, and very well.
I was also surprised when I saw control 48 to 0 in the official A7 file

I checked in http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Neo_1973_audio_subsystem, and
I think it has been switched to control.49 (as the wired headset mic)
using control.53 and 63.
I will check this point in order to update the documentation.
