An SMS is counted in bytes, while some unicode characters use several. I did not know you get get to 6 bytes for a quote symbol though. Some ways to check this: * ssh into the phone with X11 forwarding. Run the sms app so you see it on the PC screen. Copy the sms text via the clipboard, save it to a file, then examine to see how many bytes that quote uses. * Add some debugging code to the sms app, to find out what happens.
