You can install mofi, afaik it wasnt removed from the repository. You can run mokonnect from terminal (just type "mokonnect") and then while its scanning for networks, see if it throws any errors to the terminal screen. If there are no obvious errors, i can try and help you better on IRC on #openmoko-cdevel channel nickname F4t.
