1. Can you try playing that song with mplayer and confirm it plays fine? 2. Also check if you have the standard shr-u version of mplayer. 3. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to improve the scanning speed (will try more threads later). The problem with intone hanging if mplayer crashes / hangs in the background is something that's been on my todo list for a long time. Haven't gotten around to it yet. It should ideally popup a message and ask to restart mplayer - but right now it keeps waiting for some input from mplayer that never arrives. If its hanging in the scan - let me know - I'll send you a binary that prints more debug - that'll clarify where its hanging. There are still issues with file systems other than ext2/3 and fat16/32 during scanning. Hope you're not using some other fs.
