okay, i've found the issue here. I usually use litephone as the telephony application and hence keep ophonekitd out of /etc/X/Xsession.d.
A week back I needed ophonekitd, so I'd put it back and the issue started (that the phone would sleep immediately after resume). Previously, I had posted that the issue didn't occur for calls; but its there for calls as well...just that as the incoming call continues, the phone wakes up again. I removed opohekitd, and the issue is gone. Although, I guess having 2 telephony apps is not really and intended thing (that is why I removed ophonekitd...I didn't like the various ophonekitd's windows popping up)....but then is this not why FSO is there as the interface; so that we can (if need be) have multiple telephony apps? I am still unsure of the root cause...and have no real means to debug as well.
