been a while since I used navit,
but I used a custom skin and found that transparancy had problems
(the order of specifying the files in navit.xml influenced which ones were
visible)

fullscreen worked fine for me though (both by pressing the button, or using
illume)

I did however always install navit from their own openmoko feed:
http://download.navit-project.org/navit/openmoko/svn/ which used to be
always ahead of the shr feeds
