SHR-T, just like SHR-U uses the new opimd which doesn't make use of SIM
contacts and messages at all anymore. There is a tool called PISI that
helps to convert stuff, but I have never used it. I hope there is a good
wiki page on it out there....

As far as I know, is a SIM manager being coded that will be integrated
and allows you to copy SIM contacts to the phone database. But I can't
tell you any specifics here either.

I would appreciate if someone could post a nice HOWTO convert your SIM
entries so they work with the new opimd stuff too.
