I've also seen this. Please make sure that there's only one instance
of Navit running! I've noticed that in the more recent versions of
SHR-U, sometimes programs are run twice or even more when you think
nothing happens when you press the icon.
Also check for multiple instances of espeak. I found 4 of them, collectively
taking almost all cpu time. I suspect one got started each time I ran navit,
but didn't stop when I exited navit. I haven't looked any deeper yet.
i found zooming out too far can make it unusably slow, presumably due to
having to process too much mapping between position updates
