Thanks for all the replies. I'll sum it all up here:
A) The differences I see between the logs are:
- startup times of ogpsd and ogsmd are higher in my Neo (3.75 x 7.25)
and (9.55 x 14.29)
but no idea why.
- GSM request new channel from fso-abyss gives:

whereas in your log several messages appear indicating success of gsm
initialisation.
and fso-abyss.log merely contains:

successful (FsoFrameworkFileLogger created as theLogger)
2000-01-02T18:38:02.282832Z [INFO] fso-abyss : fso-abyss starting up...
B) Regarding fso.gpsd, it seems ok from ps:
root 731 1 0 18:36 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/fso-gpsd -S
localhost gpsd -P /var/run/fso-gpsd.pid
but I get in the log:
2000.01.02 18:37:54.826 ogpsd WARNING Attempted to send
something while serial is not open.
C) I tried with a different SIM, no luck.
More suggestions welcome!
