This where I keep falling off. I'm a full time dev at work, and I love
the FR, SHR etc, am dying to contribute, but every time I try to get to
work on the core stuff I use up all my free time just trying to get a
build environment running! I'm not complaining, as I don't doubt if it
was easy to fix it would already be better, but thought it worth
mentioning. I will keep trying :-)
On the other hand I personally think git is the best thing since sliced
bread :-)
Incidentally I think I might have got some improvements added to
omnewrotate, so I might not prove completely useless!
All the best, keep up the good work, and don't forget, the SHR code will
very likely outlive the freerunner, so none of the effort is wasted.
Perhaps a 'finished' distro, when we get there, will encourage more open
hardware to hit the market and the next open hardware phone won't have
to flounder on the rocks of expensive software development costs.

For me personally, it's just too much of a hassle to even set up a build
environment. The makefile is nice, but the documentation (at least last
time I checked it) was way too little. There are also so many things
that can fail; a conflict with QEmu being installed on the system comes
to mind.
Furthermore, I don't like Git at all. The commands are way too cryptic
for my taste, and I won't even start about the output of the "help" command.
