ok, for the record, here's my current preferred dim settings.
it now acts more like every other phone i've ever had :-)

ignore_by_id = lis302
idle = 30
idle_dim = 10
idle_prelock = 20
idle_lock = 0
suspend = 60
I'd like to ask for this or similar to be the default for SHR.
