the use of fsotdld (time daemon and location daemon) is causing issues
with gps at the moment:

you can either stop fsotdld and restart frameworkd and fso-gpsd or even
comment out relevant sections of fsotdld.conf in:
/etc/freesmartphone/conf/default/fsotdld.conf

#[fsotdl.provider_gps_nmea]

#[fsotdl.provider_gps]
#provider_type = nmea

now either restart fsotdld frameworkd and fso-gpsd

or reboot

Thank you for the tip, which worked for me.
Can someone make this change in the packaged file, until the
"new way" of doing things works? That way, gps will work for us in the meantime...
