Hmmmm, I *think* opkg got confused by an additional feed that I had (I do 
compile stuff with bitbake myself since, of course, not everything is in the 
shr-unstable feeds, like xinetd, etc.). I did:

r...@freerunner ~ # rm /var/lib/opkg/*
rm: /var/lib/opkg/tmp: is a directory
r...@freerunner ~ # opkg update

and after that I was finally able to install libncurses5 (and it did not find 
ncurses as the better alternative/replacer(?)).
