VILLAGE PEOPLE REACT ANGRILY TO KILLINGS

Two young men have been shot at by Indonesian
soldiers in the village of Vermasi in East Timor.

People in the village set up signs on the road to inform
passers-by of the incident.

The village of Vermasi is about a 90 minute drive east
of Dili.

On the road through Vermasi, angry village people
have set up signs and flagged down passers-by to tell
the story of a shooting allegedly by Indonesian
soldiers.

They point to blood on trees and show passegers-by
branches cut by bullets.

Locals say two men were shot at by soldiers as they
drove past in trucks on Sunday.

The precise fate of the men is unclear, with reports
ranging from the two being dead, to one only being
wounded.

The United Nations has condemned the attack and is
investigating the allegations further.
