URGENT ACTION: MILITARY PHONE NUMBER

DILI, (MateBEAN, 4/9/99). If you would like to object to the
Indonesian government's continued campaign of terror in East Timor -- an
increasingly crazed and desperate campaign -- you may telephone some of the
military officials directly responsible for it.

1. Maj. Gen. Adam Damiri, commander of the eastern Indonesian regional
command, based in Bali, visiting East Timor at the moment, +62-390.311.242

2. Col. M. Noer Muis, commander of the East Timor district military
headquarters +62-390.321.021

3. East Timor district command (Korem) +62-390.323.564

4. Kopassus, the Special Forces, also called Nanggala +62-390.321.942

Note:
Tonight, Saturday night, Dili is a deserted city. Most of the
residents have fled in the surrounding hills our of fear of attacks by
pro-Indonesia militias. Others have taken refuge in churches and convents.
Others remain inside their houses with all the lights off, not daring to
make a sound, in the hopes that others will not know they are inside.

One would hardly imagine that this morning the UN announced that
four of five East Timorese voted for independence on August 30. On the
occasion of this historic moment, the people are not celebrating in the
street. The majority of the population, not just in Dili, are now terrified
of being slaughtered by the Indonesian military and its militia hirelings.
Just at the moment that the East Timorese have made plain their rejection of
Indonesian militarism, they are being forced to endure an even more
intensive dose of it. ***
