The netcdf format is supplied as an alternative method to host data. It is
a superior data format to the binary fortran format, which allows to move
data between architectures.
In general if you never want netcdf files I would recommend to compile
without netcdf support.
However, there are a lot of keywords listed in the manual that can be used
to inhibit the output of netcdf files.

So in principle you don't need any of the netcdf files.
