It is extremely important to look carefully on electrode part at first.

The electrodes description in transport properties are saved in a file
named  .TSHS that can be generated in electrode calculations. You should do
electrode run with the following tags:
SaveHS                          T

%block kgrid_Monkhorst_Pack
    <N>    0    0    0.0
      0    <N>    0    0.0
      0    0    <N>    0.0
%endblock kgrid_Monkhorst_Pack

where N is the periodicity along the transport direction.

Is it really necessary to define semi-infinite electrodes?

Yes.

I recommend you to read Electrode description part of SIESTA manual p. 122

and the two following papers:
