I agree with that interpretation, but I think it should be explicit in the Guidelines, particularly because elsewhere in the same document, particularly section 3.4.3, the draft expressly distinguishes between “in-person” and “online” attendance. This demonstrates that the distinction is relevant and that the document knows how to make it when required. This also highlights an apparent inconsistency with election eligibility. Section 3.4.1 requires a nominee to be attending the current conference in person, whereas under the Working Group’s interpretation of section 3.6, once elected, a Chair or Co-Chair can fulfil the attendance requirement remotely. If remote participation is sufficient for an elected Chair or Co-Chair to perform their role, what is the rationale for requiring physical presence to be eligible to stand for that same role? I think the Guidelines should apply a consistent principle. The relevant consideration should be meaningful participation in and ability to facilitate the SIG, rather than physical ability to travel to a particular conference. Regards, Aftab A. Siddiqui
