Yesterday, I would have gladly given you permission to send emails to
the admins here (not that you really need my permission to do so).
However, things are different today. It seems that the publicity and
subsequent emails to date have actually been sufficient to set the wheels
of change in motion! I've heard from several sources that the network
admins (in the Business and Finance Information Technology Group) are
actually performing a policy review. That in itself doesn't mean that
anything will be made more fair, but it does signify that they are no
longer brushing this off as the unimportant request of a mere discontented
student, which seemed to be their original stance.

Additionally, I have a meeting tomorrow with several high-up people in the
Computer Science and other departments, and they are very concerned about
this policy. There is even going to be a campus-wide network policy
meeting on Friday (which I won't be present at). Basically, I feel that
the little bit of pressure applied so far by the people who've read my
story was enough to make them realize that they had better examine the
situation. If they do so, and still stick with the same policy, or a
similar one, then I'll just make that known to the public again.

But for now, I'd suggest that you hold off. I really do appreciate your
offer however. It amazed me how many people wrote in on my behalf, or just
provided their advice. I know that a lot of my actions to fight this thing
were direct suggestions from people who had read my story on the net. If
this saga has a happy ending, it will be in very large part due to you
and everyone else who offered support.

Feel free to share this little spiel with anyone you want.

Thanks again,
