PDF format

Hi, everybody,
   I used the command "cat file1, file2..., file n > newfile" for
appending those PDF files, and read the newfile under the Acroreader under 
UNIX.... but I saw is just the content of the file n, not the appended
file containing file1, ..., file n, what happened ??
