yeah, it's a shame. for everything except their cray division, this is
where stuff will probably end up within 4 years. they won't phase out
MIPS as their main platform for 1-2 years (they are waiting on merced
like the rest of us, for porting irix), and they'll still sell em well
past y2k. i certainly hope to land myself (in maybe 8 years) a phat
last-gen mips box for my home...its not that mips are dying out, just
the high-end chips, cos sgi is the primary consumer of those. the
mips chip is totally thriving in embedded markets, so mips will still
be around.
they will be porting irix, but support NT on the boxen as well. presumably
the graphics setups will be top-notch as far as intel-land is concerned.
