i have the following (working with 256M) lilo.conf

boot=/dev/sda2
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
image=/vmlinuz.new
        label=works
        root=/dev/sda2
        append="mem=256M"
        read-only

similar works with 512M, alho, redhat 5.2 does not need the append lines
on any of my boxen. i think 2.0.36 has "should work for everybody"
detection of >64M ram.

you will need to rerun lilo once you edit lilo.conf to make it re-parse the
file!
