Ok guys, I have a problem and need some help.

With all these security outbreaks I decided to download some of the rpms off
the Redhat errata that I hadn't yet....enter linuxconf.
I updated the rpm, no problem, nothing barked.
Tonight I go to reboot my machine and try some new kernel stuff and
all of a sudden linuxconf grabs control of my screen and demands that
I choose an operating mode (runlevel equivalent) like Text Only, Text &
Network, Graphics and Network, etc. This has never happened before.
After I chose Text and Network only I dropped out and ran my regular
startx for X. I want to remove linuxconf's presense from my bootup process.
I did a rpm -ql on the linuxconf.rpm and found that it placed askrunlevel
in /sbin, I also found that it was called at the very end of rc.sysinit; it looked
like it was appended.
I commented out that occurance of askrunlevel and found that linuxconf is
checked for and used here and there in my various /etc/rc.d/rcX.d/ scripts.
My question is: Is it ok to leave linuxconf in those scripts but remove that
call of askrunlevel? My fear here is being stuck in some init process that
it won't be able to understand and be stuck out of a hanging system.
So, I'm not going to reboot or do anything until someone helps me out. =)
I'm freaked out because I really don't feel like loosing all my data/mp3/etc and
have no means for backup at the moment.

Any help would be much appreciated, especially from a Redhat 5.1 user
who can verify their /etc/rc.d/rcX.d scripts do use linuxconf but are not
prompted during the bootup process.

THANKS!
