What sort of cable do you have betwen then? If it is 10baseT, you will
need a crossover cable if you lack a hub. 10baseT similar to phone cord,
and uses an 8 pin RJ45 modular jack with 4 signal conductors. If you are
using 10base2, you will need t-connectors and terminators on each end.
I highly recommend picking up a copy of Oreilly's TCPIP networking book.
It may help you with some of the basics. The Linux networking howto would
also be a good start for things on the linux side.
