Sony Development, located in Burbank, California, is in need of a system administrator to run its Linux and Irix systems and manage system and network security. Sony's Unix systems are used for several high-profile resource- intensive multimedia productions, including a 3D stereoscopic film adaptation of David Macaulay's _The Way Things Work_ and location- based entertainment centered around Moebius' _The Airtight Garage_. Heavily-used applications include Pixar RenderMan, Alias|Wavefront PowerAnimator, Nichimen Graphics N-World, Samba, Sendmail, and Amanda. The ideal candidate knows Linux well and is familiar with security issues related to Unix systems and Internet Protocol networking. Some knowledge of Irix is a plus, but general understanding of Unix systems is probably more important. A passing knowledge of Windows NT would be helpful. The hours are loose.
