Chipsmart carries a *very* cheap NIC for $15-17, and I'm *fairly* sure that
it is an NE2000 (compatible). The best card they carry is a 3COM card
(probably 3c509) for $65. There is a midrange card at $34, but I have no
idea what it might be.
Or, to *really* get screwed he/she could go to the new campus computers
(computize) and pick up a 3c509 card with no docs, drivers, or patch cable
for only $89.95!!! What a fantastic educational discount!
