I apologize for not replying directly to the message which originated
this thread; I can't seem to find it. :)
This is, more than likely, a problem with the postinst script, a
problem which I encountered but thought that it might have been
specific to my system.
Basically, dhcpcd is needed to set up the network interface. The
dhcpcd postinst scripts check ifconfig for available network
interfaces and allow you to choose which interface to use. So, you get
a "chicken or the egg" situation, in which you need dhcpcd to set up
the same ethernet connections which its postinst scripts test for.
I solved this by directly editing the postinst script and modifying
the contents of a shell variable. At the moment I can't remember
specifically which one, though it should be evident if you have any
shell-scripting experience. I would look now, but I have a test
starting in a few minutes and just wanted to give you a possible
source of information. Anyhow, if I remember correctly, I may have
posted to the list about this last August when I set up my box on
resnet; you may be able to find it in the archives.
Good luck!
