I've had limited success by adding ":unscaled" to the entries for 75dpi and
100dpi fonts in the /etc/X11/XF86config file. I say limited success because
some pages still have funky looking text.
The bigger problem I have is not being able to see anything on half the web
pages because the fonts are so damn small. I've tried putting the font size
(in Preferences) up as far as 24 and it didn't help. But adding the unscaled
part at least made them smooth out most of the time.
