Sorry this info. is so late in coming. Todd Greer asked me for
information on adopting penguins from the Ft. Worth Zoo. I would
suggest instead putting your money to good use by adopting a penguin
from SANCCOB, the South African National Coalition for the Conservation
of Coastal Birds, an organization that rescues and rehabilitates injured
and oiled South African (Jackass) penguins. It's located near Cape
Town, S. Africa. Although you can't visit these penguins whenever you
want, you can get almost daily updates on how all of the penguins are
doing from Ian and Cheryl Campbell, SANCCOB volunteers who care for new
arrivals and non-releasables in their own home, by joining the Penguin
Discussion List, [EMAIL PROTECTED] You also get hilarious stories
about who kept the neighborhood up all night 'singing', and who left a
few 'presents' in the parlor! Also, there are hundreds of pics of the
resident penguins up on a website, so you can 'see' your penguin
on-line. Sending your money to SANCCOB could make a real difference to
them, the Ft. Worth Zoo has plenty already. And hey, you can still
support Texas penguins by paying your gate fee when you visit. I've
included SANCCOB's homepage address, which has contact information, as
well as the address for the penguin adoption program, although as I'm
writing this, their server is down. Good luck in finding the penguin of
your dreams!
Live long and waddle,
Sherry Jacobsen
