Steven, /dev/cdrom is just a link to /dev/hdx or /dev/scdx, depending on whether your CDROM is SCSI or ATAPI/IDE, and where it sits on the bus. My guess would be /dev/hdc or /dev/hdb. try a mount command with the /dev/hdx1 devices instead of /dev/cdrom.
