If your kernel tree is /usr/src/linux, when you build a new kernel,
/usr/src/linux/System.map will be created. That goes in /boot/System.map
or wherever you want to put it. Lilo has never bothered me though when
I've forgotten this.
If you are using redhat or debian or some other distribution, they may
have a buildkernel type command that does all this for you, if you want to
rely on it doing everything for you.
