Are you talking about software or hardware RAID? At Sony we used many
Seagate 9 GB Barracuda drives with Linux software RAID. The system
stands up to severe beating under Samba and NFS from around 50 clients
doing software development, 3D modelling and animation, and
rendering--the latter of which is very I/O intensive. (Note that long
ago such was not the case, but Linux software RAID is pretty robust
these days.)
