Today when I booted up to linux 2.2.10 this happened:
        1. boot proceeds normally through the point when it should
bring up the Redhat logo with the gdm login box screen (and
it says that the X Font Server was started normally).
        2. instead of giving me the gdm screen, the moniter cycles
on and off rapidly about 15-20 times (~30 seconds). Then I
get booted out to a text login. The text above that says
something to the affect that X was cycling too rapidly, and above
that there is a sequence of things saying that gdm had been
        mysterously murdered (shows ~10 iterations).
        3. I can login normally and when type xfs & first, then startx &
        everything proceeds fine.

My initial guess is that something is interfering with xfs, causing
gdm to barf (keeps cycling trying to make a connection to the x font
server and dies when it can't). Does anyone have aany ideas/suggestions?
I'm scoobied on this one. Reinstall/freshen xfs? (I'm using a fairly
plain-jane RH 6.0 system.) Look in a startup script? I haven't done
anything to my system recently that even remotely relates to the init
procedure or X configuration (did install a new kernel but this error
happens both in 2.2.5 and 2.2.10).
        Thanks in advance!
        mike
