Also works well for those peksy laptop chipsets.

Summary of what to do:
        Compile a kernel with VESA framebuffer support
        Boot lilo with vga=0x317 (ex-- I think that's 1024x768x16bits)
        If you get that working, download the X framebuffer server
         (XF86_FBDev) and craete an apropriate XF config file..

There is a Framebuffer HOWTO (or mini-howto) out there some where, 
but  I can't find it a present.  Also, the linux source Documentation/fb
directory has a redme for vesafb that lists what the 0x3?? modes
are.
